This tribute is to Sammy, my almost 13 year old cocker spaniel who had to be put down last Friday.


On the way home from school one day I was told there was a surprise waiting for me. I never could have guessed that surprise would be the greatest thing that I would ever go through. I came home and what I saw was you. You looked into my eyes, I looked into yours, and we both knew we found our compadres.

Over the years we grew together, and not once did you allow me to come home and have a bad day. From your feisty attitude while playing to your intent stare at the screen while watching me game, we were best buds. You'd softly nip my nose while we were rough-housing, and would make sure my day was at the very least okay. Usually though, you were able to turn a not so good day into a very good day.

You were tougher than most people I know. Nothing could bring you down for long. Not an assault by 2 dogs, not a mild stroke, not even a semi-lame leg. Through it all, you were a pup at heart till the very end. I may not know what happened to you during your last couple days, but I am glad I was able to be there to keep you company during your final hours and repay you for all the love you showed me.

Rest in peace Sammy. I'd say good bye, but we'll meet again in around 60 years.
